Localization from .CSV

Post by EgorS* »

Hey.
Question about the localization:
I need to import data from a file localization .CSV (one file for all the dialogue in the game).
What format should the file (the name of the columns and their order)
What is the process of importing (the documentation has only one paragraph on this subject, of which little is understood)

Hi,

Here's a link to the CSV format: CSV Converter.

It's a rather complicated format because dialogue databases hold a lot of different information. The easiest way to see an example is to export an existing dialogue database into CSV format.

Several large games do use the CSV format to move data back and forth between Unity and Excel or Google Sheets, so it's possible to set up a good workflow.

However, if your budget allows, you might consider buying Chat Mapper Indie. This will let you import and export to Chat Mapper XML format. Once imported into Chat Mapper, you can import and export to Excel format, which your translators may find much easier to use.
