How to take care of your Roomba - Cleaning the wheels and what to do when the brush not spinning

There are a few things that can happen during operating a Roomba robot, and most of them can be fixed at home. Do you know how to take care of your Roomba robot properly? Let’s see how to clean Roomba side wheels and what to do when your Roomba brush stops spinning.

How to clean Roomba side wheels

We usually focus on cleaning the brushes, the rollers, the dustbin, and the filter. But how many of us pay attention to the side wheels? Dirty side wheels can result in tracking dirt back into the house, or even make the robot dysfunctional because it got stuck.

To clean the side wheels, you’ll need:
  • A standard screwdriver and a small one for removing the wheels
  • A microfiber towel for cleaning the wheel
  • A pair of rubber gloves if you don’t want to leave fingerprints on your Roomba
  • A handheld vacuum if you want to speed up the process

Here is the step-by-step tutorial on how to clean your Roomba side wheels:
  • Step 1: Flip your Roomba over and place it on a soft towel to prevent scratching.
  • Step 2: Use the microfiber towel to clean the wheels. Make sure you spin them for a full clean.
  • Step 3: Gently push the wheel to see if there is debris underneath. If you can’t feel heavy accumulation, you’re done. Otherwise, move on to the next step.
  • Step 4: Remove the side brushes, then remove the wheels using the screwdrivers. Remember to put the brushes and bolts in a safe place so they won’t go missing afterward.
  • Step 5: Use a dry towel to clean each wheel. Remember not to use any kind of liquid solution because it may damage electrical and metal components around the wheels.
  • Step 6: Put the wheels and the brushes back in place. Make sure everything is secure before operating your Roomba.
What you should do when the brush doesn’t spin

When you see your Roomba brush not spinning, don’t contact the technician just yet. Here are things you can do to fix the problem:
  • Clean the debris beneath the side brush: caught-up debris can make your brush stuck. Clean your brush regularly so it can work properly.
  • Clean the gearbox: when the gearbox gets dirty, it can’t control the brush to spin. Remove the gearbox lid to get access to the gear and clean them up. Don’t forget to lubricate the gears before putting them back.
  • Lubricate the side brush motor: after using the Roomba for some time, the motor can get dry and need additional lubrication. Apply a small amount of oil to a part of the motor shaft. Clean up any excess oil before you reassemble everything.

The Dialogue System doesn't have any screen capture features. You can capture the text using a few simple C# methods , demonstrated in the ConversationLogger.cs script.
