Hello, I just recently bought this product and am wondering if Dialogue System has an in-built way to script all the dialogue (like an Inky based format) vs. the current diagram layout that is default (looks a lot like Twine.)
I know I can get a 3rd party option like YarnSpinner but it seems like Dialogue System still only uses version 1.7 or so, and I'll need localization so Inky is currently out.
So I was wondering if Dialogue System provides a way to script almost all the dialogue in text (Renpy is another example of how this is done).
I hope my question makes sense--I'm not sure about what the actual terms are to describe this stuff. Thank you!
Is there a text based scripter for Dialogue System?
Re: Is there a text based scripter for Dialogue System?
Hi,
Yes, you can use JLC format, which is a format Mografi initially designed for their game Jenny LeClue - Detectivu and contributed for other Dialogue System users to use. Or use Yarn 1.2.7; that's what Night in the Woods used, so it's fully capable for real games. (They didn't use the Dialogue System, btw.)
If you're looking for something in between text and nodes, you can switch the Dialogue Editor's Conversations section to Outline mode (Menu > Outline). This makes it work like Bioware's Neverwinter Nights/Dragon Age editor. You can also import from Neverwinter Nights format for that matter.

Thank you so much for your help, Tony! I bought the system despite not fully knowing its capabilities due to the fact everyone says you provide EXCELLENT and responsive support. They weren't kidding. I'll take a look at those tools.

Thanks for buying the Dialogue System! If you have questions about the JLC importer or other tips for content creation, just let me know.
