Playing text in a cutscene (as subtitles)

Looking for the best way to handle using DM for cutscenes. Using it with the Cinema Director and would like the dialogue to function similar to subtitles on a foreign film. So during a scene, I would need the dialogue to show up at let's say 10 various times with each being on the screen for 5 seconds (with no player interaction). Is this doable in DM?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Yes, it's doable in the Dialogue System. And it just so happens that an updated Cinema Director Support package is going up on the Dialogue System Extras page this weekend with some new Cinema Director events that will make it even easier.

There are two ways design the cutscene:

1. If you frame it as a Cinema Director cutscene, then you'll add the new Start Conversation event at various times, specifying the ID of the line to speak. (Wait for the updated support package this weekend to get access to the Start Conversation event.)

2. Or, you can frame it as a Dialogue System conversation. As the conversation flows, each line can run its own small Cinema Director cutscene to handle whatever kind of cinematic action occurs during that line of dialogue. (You can do this right now with version 1.5.9; no need for an updated support package.)

Thanks, I'll wait for the package this weekend to see how it works.
