NPC sprites stick around after conversation end

Back with another kerfuffle. I am having a problem where if a conversation ends, and another one is not set to start after it, the portrait for the NPC stays on the screen for a few seconds, even though watching the conversation tab in the manager as it plays confirms that the conversation is actually over. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere that sets how long NPC portraits stay up?
