Understanding the differences between "Emphasis tags" and Rich Text

Post by Alatriste »

Hi,

I'm reading about the emphasis tags [EM#] but I'm not sure how different are from the rich text options.
What can I get using the emphasis tags that I cannot get using just rich text coding?

Thanks!

Hi,

They're very similar. Emphasis tags come from Chat Mapper. The Dialogue System was originally a Unity front-end for the data produced by Chat Mapper. Rich text codes are built into Unity.

One advantage of emphasis tags is that you can change them globally. For example, say you wrap all your "evil" responses in [em2] tags that are set to the color black. Later, you decide that all evil responses should be red. With emphasis tags, you can change the definition of [em2] in the database and it will apply everywhere you used [em2]. If you had used rich text codes, you would have to edit each rich text code manually throughout your database.
