How to export Database + text tables into a neat Excel sheet

Post by Strook »

Hello!
I know DS allows you to export your database by default which is great, however handling this file directly to external people can be a bit hard because its very dense

Is there an easy way to export all of the dialogue + text tables in a neat way ? For example, with simple columns like : Actor/Dialogue Text/Comments/ and then a column per language ?

Ideally I'd like multiple sheets per text!

Is the i2 Loc plugin the way to go? I've never tried it, and wanted your opinion on this :)

Hi,

There isn't a single-Excel export for dialogue databases and text tables together in the Dialogue System itself. If you use the i2 Localization integration, you can export i2's localization database to Google Sheets or CSV files.

Also, the format to which you export your database may depend on your target audience.

Voice actors and people who are used to reading screenplays may prefer the Screenplay format.

Voice directors who need to keep track of voiceover recordings will want the Voiceover Script format.

Font artists will want to refer to a Language Text export, which is a report of all the characters used in the dialogue database so they can make sure their fonts contain the characters.

For localization, you'll want to use Localization Export/Import or i2 Localization.

Another option is to export to Chat Mapper XML and import it into Chat Mapper. Chat Mapper is a bit pricey, but it has some good export options such as being able to export conversations to conversation tree JPEG images, RTF, PDF, and a nice Excel format where each conversation is on its own sheet. (Well, as nice as any spreadsheet can represent a tree structure.)

Thank you, I used the Screenplay format for that specific need ( Having someone external read through the dialogue).

I also add another related question:

I installed and started using i2 with DS, everything is working nicely so far. In our game we have multiple text tables, but in the Ds to i2 window and in the documentation, it seems it is only possible to link one Text Table with the Dialogue database.

How can I add all of my text tables data to i2?
Thanks!

Hi,

I'll look into the possibility of supporting multiple text tables in the DS To I2 window. I think it can be done, with the one caveat that, if there are any new text table fields in i2 that aren't actually in any text tables yet, one of those text tables will receive the new fields -- probably either the first or last one in the list.

Hello Tony, sorry for bumping an old thread, but I was recently looking into localization, and as I have a lot of text tables I did some research and found this thread: https://www.pixelcrushers.com/phpbb/vie ... 594#p29594

....I got excited before realizing that it was not for DS but for Quest Machine :D

Will it be possible to get the same feature in DS? I still have the alternative of merging all of my text tables into one, but I like the separation, but I'd like to keep the easy one click import/export of DS <-> i2 localization!

Thanks!

It's actually for DS (version 2.2.25).

Just wanted to say I updated, and it's so convenient to be able to localize all text tables with i2, thank you for adding this!
