Any DESIGNERS/WRITERS using Pixelcrushers assets with Celtx? (Newbie here could use your help!)

Post by Jelliefishes »

So I'm looking into Celtx as a tool to use to our support our team's game writing, and all in all, it looks like a pretty good fit for our needs. (Compatible with Pixelcrusher's Dialogue System, exports .JSON, allows playable scenes in-window, has a lot of tools that we are planning to use.) BUT...

I can't figure out whether and/or how it would work with the integrated quest system in the Pixelcrusher's Dialogue System.
1. Can I create quests in Celtx and import them into the Dialogue System?
2. If not, does importing Celtx dialogue cause any issues (bugs, overwriting, etc.) with existing dialogue or interactions in the Dialogue System?

I've reached out to the Celtx support team, but haven't gotten my answer in 5 days, so I figured I'd drop the question here and see if anyone has come across this before.

*I only have the free trial of Celtx, so I can't export my writing to Unity to test this out myself. (And I'd rather not sign up for a monthly subscription just to find out that the tools aren't compatible.)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

Since Celtx is primarily a screenwriting tool, it doesn't have good facilities for defining quests. It does screenwriting really well, though.

I recommend using two dialogue databases:

1. Edit one dialogue database in the Dialogue System's built-in Dialogue Editor window. Define your quests in this database.

2. Generate the second dialogue database from Celtx JSON using the Dialogue System's Celt importer.

Assign the Celtx dialogue database to the Dialogue Manager's Initial Database field. Add an Extra Databases component to the Dialogue Manager GameObject, and assign the quest dialogue database to it.
